Miles House

One project was the home of Mrs. Lily Miles of Philadelphia, where she lives with two sons, both adults with special needs. A large tree on an adjacent vacant lot fell and damaged her roof and brick siding, causing Mrs. Miles to have water entering her residence for many years. The resulting water damage to the interior of the home was severe!

We were able to remove the offending tree branches and gave Mrs. Miles her new roof! On Tuesday, March 8, 2005, a very wet and rainy day, a very happy and grateful Mrs. Miles called to report that, for the first time in many years, it was not raining in her house!

Torres House
Maritza Torres is a single parent of three children. She is on a fixed income and met the requirements of The Ray of Hope Project to qualify for assistance. Her brother had begun renovations on her home, but due to illness, he passed away before he could complete the work. The home had no stairway banisters or railings prior to the renovations being done, and her youngest son fell down the staircase and severely injured himself.

Although Ms. Torres had applied to various city organizations for assistance, none of them were able to provide her with help. Finally, Congreso, another community organization, referred Ms. Torres to The Ray of Hope Project. Now Ms. Torres and her family have a brand new kitchen, all new plumbing in their basement, outside drainage, and handrails for both upstairs and downstairs.
